Sunday School Teacher
Congregation Kol Shalom, a Reform Jewish Congregation on Bainbridge Island, is in search of a Sunday school teacher for a combined class of 3rd and 4th grade students.
Kol Shalom is a 115 member family congregation with a full-time rabbi and with 35 students in our school. Our curriculum revolves around the Parashat Hashavua (weekly Torah portion), Jewish holidays, rituals and traditions. Our Hebrew curriculum this year will be Onward Hebrew and Hebrew Through Movement.
We meet 22 Sundays a year from 9 am to 11:15 am. Our families are engaged in our community and in our school through volunteering with holiday celebrations, family Kabbalat Shabbat dinners, and as members of the Religious School Committee. Teachers are responsible for creating lesson plans with the support of the Religious School director and Rabbi. Teacher meetings are held twice a year. A teacher training led by an outside educator will take place after the High Holy Days.
We are looking for a teacher with knowledge of Hebrew and Judaism, with Religious School teaching skills and who enjoys working with children in small groups. The successful candidate will possess a keen understanding of the importance of a Jewish education and will be dedicated to providing a positive and rich experience for their students.
This teaching position is on Sunday mornings and will require travel to Bainbridge Island as well as the ability to plan and deliver online classes if needed. Kol Shalom may be able to cover commuting expenses for individuals coming from the Seattle area. This is an hourly paid position. Children of religious school teachers will have their religious school tuition waived. Congregation Kol Shalom is an equal opportunity employer.
